Reds Lead But Red Card Paves Way For Hammering.

Last updated : 25 August 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Its one win in 12 now for a Barnsley side who remain win-less in 2013-2014 and their –8 goal difference is the second worst in the Football League. League One Carlisle (-12) is the worst.

The Reds have now conceded five in a game for the third successive season.

Things had looked so much rosier when Chris Dagnall gave Barnsley a 14th minute lead. It was the 27-year-old striker’s first goal since March and his first from open play since February.

Polish midfielder Tomasz Cywka notched his sixth goal for the club this afternoon. Four of those strikes have now come away from home.

This was Barnsley’s fourth successive defeat against Blackburn and they have not won any of the last seven meetings.

Jean-Yves Mvoto becomes the second Barnsley player sent off this season, just four league games in. They were only shown three red cards in the whole of 2012-2013, and two of those were in the same game.

Barnsley made two substitutions in the first half, the first time this has happened since the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on the 23rd October 2012.

The Reds have failed to win any of their first four league games for the first time since 2009-2010 when they failed to notch a victory until the seventh match. Simon Davey was sacked as manager once the winless run had reached five.

Blackburn’s notched their first victory of the season today. It is the first time they have scored five in a game since a 5-3 win at Bristol City in September 2012 and the first time the Ewood Park faithful have seen their side hit five since a Carling Cup tie against Peterborough back in October 2009!
