Judging by today's reports in the Barnsley Chronicle, it appears that the Reds are showing an interest in Bournemouth defender Jason Pearce.
The 23-year-old, who has made over 150 appearances for the Cherries in 4 years at Dean Court, could act as a direct replacement for Jason Shackell who looks set to leave Oakwell.
Shackell has been the subject of constant speculation all summer so far and has been linked with moves to Derby and more recently Portsmouth and Burnley.
Reports in the press suggested Shackell had been in talks with Pompey boss Steve Cotterill but a Barnsley FC insider rubbished these reports. Skipper Shackell could command a transfer fee of over £1m.
Reds boss Keith Hill told the Star: "He’s a very good player, I’m looking to speak with him before pre-season training to talk about the future.”
