Reds Looking to Winnall

Barnsley have today seen a bid for Scunthorpe United striker and last season’s League Two top scorer Sam Winnall rejected.

The 23 year old who started his career with Wolves was a major part of the Scunthorpe side that won promotion to League One last season, scoring 23 goals in 49 games in 2013-2014, his first season with the club.

Glanford Park is the first place Winnall has really been able to call home after failing to break into the first team at Molineux. He was with the Midlands outfit from 2009 to 2013, but made just one senior appearance- in a League Cup tie against Southend in 2010, and had loan spells at Burton, Hereford, Inverness and Shrewsbury before signing a one-year deal with the Iron following a successful trial.

Scunthorpe have offered Winnall increased terms to sign a new two year deal but The Reds have today tabled an offer that has been rejected.

Should Reds boss Danny Wilson revive his interest and be successful, it would mean Barnsley could line up on the 9th August with both last season’s League Two and Scottish Championship’s top scorers in their side.
