BBC Radio Sheffield have confirmed that the Reds have made an enquiry to Southampton about bringing striker Billy Sharp to the club on loan.
The 27-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Oakwell in the past, is also reportedly wanted by his former club Doncaster Rovers but the Reds are the first side to make an approach.
He shot onto the scene at Scunthorpe United, scoring 53 goals in 85 appearances for the Iron before moving back to his first club Sheffield United.
He joined Doncaster in 2009, initially on loan before making his move permanent in 2010. Overall at the Keepmoat, he made 84 appearances and scored 40 goals.
This earnt him a move to Southampton but he has found first team opportunities hard to come by at St Mary's, and spent time last season out on loan at Nottingham Forest.
