...........the Reds will meet recently relegated, and FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic on Saturday 3rd August in Owen Coyle’s first competitive game in charge of the Lancashire outfit.
It will be the first meeting between the two sides in 10 years, the Latics did the double over Barnsley back in the 2002-2003 on their way to winning Nationwide Division Two. It will be their first EVER meeting at this level of English football and comes eight days before Wigan head to Wembley for the Community Shield.
David Flitcroft’s men also finish the 2013-2014 campaign at home, against another side fresh from Premier League relegation- Queens Park Rangers.
The other key dates for Reds supporters will probably concern the local derbies.
Barnsley travel to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday 26th October 2013. They will be hunting only their second victory in 14 visits. The Owls then come to Oakwell on Saturday 1st February 2014.
Acquaintances with Doncaster Rovers will be renewed after a year apart when they head to Oakwell on Saturday 9th November 2013 and Barnsley will go looking for their fourth victory in five trips to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday 15th February 2014.
Finally the men from West Yorkshire, Leeds United host Barnsley on Saturday 21st December 2013 with the return fixture, Barnsley’s penultimate home game, on Saturday 19th April 2014.
