Reds Nick A Tiger.

Barnsley has today signed Hull City striker Nick Proschwitz on loan.

The 27-year-old German forward signed for the Tigers for £2.6m in July 2012 but has struggled to force his way into Steve Bruce’s plans.

He managed five goals in 31 appearances last season, including a crucial strike in the final day draw with Cardiff which secured Hull’s return to the Premier League but has managed just 23 minutes of top flight action this season plus four cup appearances.

The former Hamburg and Wolfsburg man did net in Hull’s 2-0 FA Cup win at Middlesbrough earlier this month but the arrival of Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long last week has pushed Proschwitz further down the pecking order.

Reds boss Danny Wilson has tied up a deal until the end of the season with The Reds desperate for forward cover with Marcus Pedersen still struggling with injury and both Chris Dagnall and Jason Scotland having now left the club.

Wilson told the club's official website:

“His experience is something that will help us now, rather than getting a younger player in, and he is someone who will be able to hit the ground running.

“I think Nick and Chris O’Grady will be able to feed off each other quite well. He is a player does like to score, he can get into the box well and he is a good finisher.

“Hull have been fantastic with us in getting this deal done and I can only say thank you to them for that and hopefully a big thank you at the end of the season.

“It can be difficult identifying the right players and then getting them into your club and it’s not always easy to entice someone to the club, particularly when you’re at the bottom of the league like we are.

“Nick seems very positive and he is not fazed by the position we find ourselves in. In fact it’s quite the opposite, he feels very confident he can get the goals that will help us out.”
