Barnsley are believed to be on the verge of their second January signing in the shape of Cordoba left back Daniel Pinillos.

The 25 year old Spaniard returned to Cordoba who play in the Spanish second division in 2017 after a two year spell at Nottingham Forest and reports in Spain are now suggesting he is set to return to England, and arrive at Oakwell.

Pinillos was born in La Rioja - a small province in Spain and came through the youth system at their local football side UD Logrones before moving to Racing Santander in 2010 where he made his debut for their B team as they were relegated from the Segunda B division.

After three seasons with the B team he moved to CD Ourense who were also in the third tier where he stayed for one season before signing for Cordoba.

He got his big break in England in the summer of 2015 as he signed a two year deal at Forest and made 35 appearances, scoring once -  a last minute equaliser in an East Midlands derby against Derby.

His two years at the City Ground were plagued by injury however as he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury and then on his return suffered a meniscus problem in his other knee.

In the summer of 2017 Pinillos was released at the end of his contract and returned to Cordoba on a three year deal, but with the club 21st in the Segunda it looks like Pinollos is ready to make a quick return to England.

Tonight BBC Radio Sheffield reporter Andy Giddings tweeted:

"Understand reports from Spain suggesting #barnsleyfc are close to signing Cordoba left back Daniel Pinillos (ex #NFFC) are true. Expecting deal to go through in the next couple of days."
