Barnsley are ready to pounce for Sheffield United midfielder Lee Williamson if he fails to sign a new deal at Bramall Lane.
The Blades, who were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield in last month's League One play-off final, have offered terms to the 30-year-old who joined from Watford in 2009.
He was a target for the Reds back in 2007, when he joined the Hornets but the chance to play in the Championship next term may sway Williamson to Oakwell.
Meanwhile, the Reds are again being linked with a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Chris O'Grady.
Boss Keith Hill did confirm that 'tentative enquiries' were made for the man he worked with at Rochdale, but he also said he was 'neither interested nor disinterested'
