Barnsley have signed Newcastle youth midfielder Dennis Knight after his contract with the North East club expired.
The 19 year old had been tipped for big things whilst rising through the ranks at St James’ Park and his praises have been sung on numerous occasions by the club’s reserve manager and former player Peter Beardsley.
Unfortunately Knight could not force his way into senior manager Alan Pardew’s thoughts and he also had a trial at Hartlepool recently.
Knight will remain at Oakwell until the end of the season and is likely to spend much of the time with the Development Squad although he could be named on the bench for Saturday’s South Yorkshire derby at Sheffield Wednesday.
