Danny Wilson has made his second signing of the summer with the free transfer recruit of striker Kane Hemmings from Cowdenbeath.
The 22 year old started his career at Tamworth but earned a move to Scottish giants Rangers in 2011, where he appeared in three Scottish Youth Cup finals and captained their Under 19 side.
Unfortunately Hemmings found the route through to the Ibrox side’s first team hard to get through and he made just nine appearances, scoring once before joining Scottish Championship side Cowdenbeath, initially on loan in 2013.
Last season proved to be a prolific campaign for Hemmings and he scored 24 times in 39 games, including two hat tricks despite Cowdenbeath finishing ninth out of 10 teams and was named the Scottish Championship Player of the Year.
Hemmings then proved to be their saviour, scoring the winning goal in the second leg of their relegation play-off with Dunfermline to ensure they avoided the drop into League One.
He decided to leave Central Park last month and had been on trial in the USA before signing a one-year deal at Oakwell this morning.
Wilson told the club’s official website:
“Kane has a very good scoring record and in a team that struggled last season to get 24 goals in 39 appearances is a credit to himself.
"I don’t think he will have a problem adapting to football in our league which is why I’ve brought him to Barnsley. He has got good pace and he is a very good finisher, as the stats will tell you. He can play in a number of positions, but more importantly he’s down the middle and has got goals in him which is what we want to bring into the team.”
