Barnsley have moved to address their sudden gaps in midfield by bringing in 20-year-old Preston midfielder Josh Brownhill on loan.
The move comes off the back of former Reds loanee Ben Pearson joining Brownhill's parent club, and the injury to Josh Scowen, which has left Lee Johnson very short of options in the middle of the park.
Brownhill has made a total of 66 appearances for North End, since his debut in 2013 and has scored six goals.
Meanwhile, leaving Oakwell is full-back Reece Wabara. The 24-year-old joined the Reds in mid-August and made 26 appearances and scored one goal, a cracker in the 4-1 win over Swindon in September.
He joined promotion chasing Wigan Athletic on Thursday despite being offered a new deal to stay at Barnsley.
