Barnsley defeated local rivalsSheffieldWednesday 2-0 in a pre-season friendly for the second year in a row.
A goal in each half from new recruit David Perkins and Scots man Jim O’Brien ensured victory over League One Wednesday in front of a rather paltry crowd of just 6,590 at Oakwell.
It was Perkins, a free transfer signing from Colchester who got the ball rolling after Scot Wiseman had chested a Nathan Doyle pass into his path and Perkins coolly stroked home from 12 yards.
O’Brien then sealed the three points after he turned home Doyle’s cross with ten minutes remaining.
The Reds travel to Scunthorpe United for their final pre-season friendly on Saturday looking to make it a third successive year without defeat in summer warm up games.
