The long standing relationship between Barnsley Building Society and Barnsley Football Club is set to come to an end in May after the newly owned bank decided to cut ties with the club.
Barnsley Building Society were taken over last year by Yorkshire Building Society and Reds general manager Don Rowing says this signalled the beginning of the end. He told the Barnsley Chronicle:
“Prior to the takeover the club previously had weekly, if not daily contact with Barnsley Building Society through their marketing manager Samantha Cameron Carruthers. This contact with an enthusiastic commercial partner was exceptional and envied by many clubs. Sadly the relationship enjoyed prior to the Yorkshire Building Society takeover has completely changed. That close relationship is now in the past. The proactive collaboration has diminished and it became abundantly clear the new owner of Barnsley Building Society has little interest in promoting their brand via a relationship with the club. It is the end of an era. The end of a close, successful relationship between two of the oldest established brands in Barnsley”
It is also believed the tie-up with Lotto has official club merchandise providers will also end this close season.
