The 11 players who turn out for Barnsley on the opening day of the 2014-2015 League One campaign will make history as The Reds will face Crawley Town for the first time ever.
The two sides meet at Oakwell on Saturday 9th August as Barnsley start at home for the third season in a row.
Other intriguing fixtures come at the end of the campaign. Barnsley’s penultimate match is against Bradford City, on each of the last two occasions this has happened, in 1997 and 2006, Barnsley have won promotion. On the 26th April 1997, The Reds defeated the Bantams 2-0 to secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history, and on the 29th April nine years later they drew 0-0 before going on to win promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.
The only difference from those two encounters is that this one will take place at Valley Parade and takes place on Saturday 25th April, a day shy of 18 years since that glorious day in the late 90s.
A week later comes an equally tasty fixture as The Reds will finish the campaign at home to Rochdale, now manager by former Reds boss Keith Hill. Hill returned to Spotland after being fired at Oakwell in December 2012, and won promotion with them in May.
The Boxing Day match is away at Preston.
