Reds To See If Hugo Still Has The Colace

Reds boss Lee Johnson has confirmed that the club will run the rule over former midfielder Hugo Colace as they look to add some experience to their young side.

The 31-year-old Argentinian initially joined the Reds in June 2008 from Newell's Old Boys in his homeland and proved a massive hit at Oakwell, making over 100 appearances.

He left the club in June 2010, and was set to sign for Crystal Palace but made a dramatic U-turn and re-signed for the Reds a month later but fell out of favour and was released the following summer.

Since then he has played in Mexico and France but has managed to engineer himself a second shot at Barnsley with some fans sceptical but others seeing him as a much needed experienced head.

Johnson told reporters in his pre-Coventry press conference:

“Hugo is due to come in; he’s just to sort his flight out. There’s no secret there.

“He’s 31 and I know he’s been working hard physically and sending me some videos of him working and doing some work with a professional trainer. He has a fond memory of the club and the fans have a fond memory of him. But I will assess it just like I would any other player."

The Reds travel to Coventry City tomorrow night, a place where they haven't won for 92 years, looking to arrest a slide of six successive defeats which has seen them slump into League One's bottom four.
