Ross Turnbull has today made a sensational return to Oakwell by signing for a club he first made his debut for TEN years ago.
The now 29-year-old former England U16, 17, 18 and 19 international was just a teenager when he first stood between the posts at Oakwell signing on loan from Premier League outfit Middlesbrough in April 2004.
Turnbull made three appearances for The Reds at the end of the 2003-2004 League One season under Paul Hart before spending October 2004- February 2005 with the club making a total of 27 appearances, and keeping a total of seven clean sheets.
On his return to the North East Turnbull spent time out at Crewe and Cardiff before leaving the Riverside in 2009 after making playing just 29 games in seven years for them.
He wont have minded his departure however after he sensationally signed for Chelsea, penning a four year contract.
During those four years Turnbull would make just 19 appearances, three of which came in the Champions League, but whilst at Stamford Bridge he won one Premier League title (although he did not feature enough to receive a medal), one FA Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League before leaving on a free transfer to join Barnsley’s South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster in August 2013.
Turnbull featured 31 times for Doncaster last season including the 0-0 draw with Barnsley in November in which he saved a penalty from Chris O’Grady to earn Rovers a point, but he lost his place to Manchester United loanee Sam Johnstone in January.
Turnbull has signed a two year deal at Oakwell and told the club’s official website:
"As soon I knew Barnsley were interested, I wanted to sign,"
"I know Mark Crossley from my time at Middlesbrough as well. He was very complimentary of the Club and now I'm looking forward to the new season."
