Former Barnsley captain Paul Reid has returned to Carlisle United on an emergency loan today after losing his place in the Barnsley side.
Reid, 26, who led The Reds to promotion from League One in 2006 started his career with Carlisle in 1999 before securing a £600,000 move to Scottish giants Rangers in 2000.
He then moved to Preston and Northampton before coming to Oakwell on a free transfer in the summer of 2004. He was made captain by Andy Ritchie at the start of the 2005-2006 season and led the side to promotion via the play-offs that May.
Unfortunately he found the Championship a bit too fast for him and was a part of the defence that conceded the most in the Football League last season. He made two starts at the beginning of 2007-2008 but was sent off in the 2-2 draw with Colchester and has made just one substitute appearance (in the 90th minute at Southampton) since. After recovering from a knee injury he had joined the Cumbrians again and could be set for another League One promotion. Carlisle lie second in the table, five points clear of third place Doncaster.
Reid will stay at Brunton Park 4th May 2008.
Good Luck Reidy, you was a great servant and the most committed player I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Its just a pity the Championship was a step too big.
