On 28 minutes the Reds won a penalty after Daniel Nardiello's header was saved on the line by defender Neil Ashton who was sent-off but Nardiello's penalty was saved.

Nardiello did put the Reds in front on 35 minutes from a Nathan Jarman pass but Tranmere were level terms early in the second half from a Simon Haworth shot.

Barnsley were back in front after 57 minutes through a Nathan Jarman header.
