New Reds manager Andy Ritchie told the official website: "I am very, very pleased. To be honest I set my heart on getting the job full time as soon as I was appointed as caretaker but I had to concentrate on the job in hand through to the end of the season. We had one dip at Port Vale but apart from that the players have all done wonderfully well.
"Just looking around the place you can see just how much the Club and fans want success and everything here deserves to be in a better position. We all want promotion to the Championship - there are a lot of good teams in this league and it is the hardest to get out of but I am confident that, with the calibre of players we want to bring in and some rejigging in the summer, we will have a good chance next season.
"We will be trying our best to give the fans what they want next season. There will not be wholesale changes in the summer but we have some positions that need strengthening and we are in talks with at least four players who we are confident will make that difference.
"The players have been fantastic since I have been in charge and I cannot praise them highly enough. I have had support from the players, the Board and from the fans during the last two months and I hope that we can repay that next season.
"I have enjoyed every aspect of my 16 months here at Barnsley but I am absolutely delighted to be back in first team management. I did not realize just how much I had missed it until I was given the job.
"It is something I have been hopeful about for a while but now I have the job I want to get on with it. We all want Championship football here at Oakwell and I will work to the best of my ability to achieve that."
