Barnsley have made their first signing of the summer by acquiring defender Marc Roberts on a three year contract from Halifax.
The 24 year old was born in Penistone and is now returning to his roots following two years with the Shaymen where he has made 93 appearances and featured for them in the Conference Premier play-offs in 2013-2014.
Roberts has been scouted by a number of Championship clubs during his stay in West Yorkshire and was the subject of an enquiry from Birmingham earlier this campaign.
However Roberts has decided to return “home” to become Lee Johnson’s first permanent signing as Barnsley boss.
He told the club’s official website:
"I'm happy to get it sorted and I can't wait to get going.
"I've always wanted to sign for my hometown club, and now it's finally here - I can't wait.
"I've got a lot of friends who are Barnsley fans so I've always looked out for their results."
