Former Barnsley boss Mark Robins has applied for the vacant managerial vacancy at Cardiff City as he looks to get straight back into the game.

The former Manchester United striker left Oakwell three weeks ago after a disagreement with the board, and Cardiff dispensed of Dave Jones after they failed to win promotion, losing to Reading in the Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals.

Robins told the Western Mail:

I am very interested in the Cardiff job and my details have been sent to the club,

"I think the Cardiff job is one of the best available in football at the moment. It really is a top, top job. It's a very exciting challenge and would be a great opportunity for anybody.

"If I do get the opportunity then that would be fantastic."

"Everything at Cardiff is geared towards Premiership football and has been for a few seasons,"

"The facilities and the stadium are all at Premiership standard. Everything is ready there.

"They have been consistently pushing for promotion, but have just stumbled at that final hurdle.

"I believe Cardiff and myself share the same ambition now and that is to be operating in the Premiership."
