As expected Ross Turnbull has completed a free transfer move to Barnsley’s Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.
The 30 year old only arrived at Oakwell for a third spell last summer and made 27 appearances in 2014-2015 before a serious back injury ended his involvement in March.
With doubts over his long term fitness and the emergence of 22 year old Adam Davies who kept seven clean sheets in the 13 games after Turnbull’s injury, meant Reds head coach Lee Johnson was happy to get Turnbull’s wages off the bill.
The Middlesbrough graduate won one Premier League title (although he did not feature enough to receive a medal), one FA Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League during a four year stint at Chelsea despite making only 19 appearances but first appeared for Barnsley over a decade ago, making 27 appearances over two loan spells in the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons.
Leeds will be the fourth Yorkshire club Turnbull has played for after also appearing for Bradford and Doncaster.
