The summer transfer rumour mill has begun spinning after rumours surfaced that the Reds are in talks with Scunthorpe United left-back Marcus Williams.
Williams was a transfer target last summer but the move was scuppered by the fee that Scunthorpe were asking for him. This summer, he is out of contract but would still command a fee as he is under the age of 24. Scunthorpe have offered him a new contract for their new start in League One.
Meanwhile, Simon Davey has transfer listed five players that are surplus to requirements as he builds for next season. Former skipper Paul Reid, Andy Johnson, the AWOL Kim Christensen, Sam Togwell and Hungarian legend Istvan Ferenczi.
Reid has made 128 appearances for Barnsley over 4 seasons and scored 7 goals. Andy Johnson made just 5 appearances, Sam Togwell was signed by Andy Ritchie after the playoff success in 2006 and made 75 appearances, scoring twice. Kim Christensen netted once in 15 and Istvan Ferenczi made 58 appearances, scoring 12.
