Scarborough are set to sign former Barnsley striker Griff Jones who has been training with the Seasiders and will sign non-contract terms at the McCain Stadium.
Jones was released by Barnsley after making three senior appearances and after a brief stay at Wrexham joined Conference North side Runcorn.
Scarborough are hoping to have Jones in their line-up for Tuesday's Conference Cup trip to Morecambe.
Former Scarborough forward Andy Ritchie contacted head coach Nick Henry about the powerful striker.
Henry is a former Oldham team-mate of Barnsley assistant boss Ritchie.
Henry said: "I spoke to Andy before Christmas and he recommended Griff to me, but at the time the lad had something already sorted out.
"Griff's dad rang me up the other day and asked if we could have a look at him.
"He has done very well since joining us, but I want to have a look at him in a game, so Morecambe is the perfect opportunity."
Jones with join former Reds, Neil Redfearn and Leigh Walker at the club.
