Barnsley and Derby County are set to swap players in the next week or so with Reds captain Jason Shackell sealing a £1m move to Pride Park and Rams midfielder Miles Addison coming to Oakwell.
Reds boss Keith Hill admitted this afternoon that he is all but resigned to losing his skipper after a fine debut season at the club with the 27 year old’s agent making it very clear his client wants out.
The Reds are set to make a profit on the sale however and they could be set to land 22 year old former England Under 21 interational Addison in exchange.
Addison came through the ranks at Pride Park and has made 65 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2005. Hill told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
“Miles is a player I admire and there is a possibility of him coming from Derby County. I know him well and he is someone I would like to see come here. He is a multi-positional player who can play centre half and right back as well as in midfield. I believe he would be a great acquisition for Barnsley Football Club.”
Meanwhile former boss Mark Robins has been overlooked for the managerial position at Cardiff City as they appointed Watford’s Malky Mackay today. Robins had admitted he would be interested in taking the reigns at the Cardiff City Stadium after resiging from his Oakwell post at the end of May. But the Bluebirds have turned to 39 year old Mackay, who very nearly took Watford into the play-offs last season on a tight budget.
