Interesting Stats:
This will be the first South Yorkshire derby meeting at this level of English football for 33 years.
The Reds have failed to win any of their last five trips down the A61 to Bramall Lane.
Three of the last four clashes home or away have ended in draws.
22 of the 62 meetings have ended in draws including nine of the last 20.
Barnsley have won just one of the last 10 meetings overall and have beaten the Blades just twice this Millennium.
It is in sharp contrast to the meetings before 2000 when Barnsley had lost just one of the final 11.
The last time these two sides met Sheffield United were relegated to League One that day.
In three of the last six meetings a player has scored a brace.
Sheffield United need two more goals to reach 100 v Barnsley.
Sheffield United are currently on a four match winning run in all competitions and are unbeaten in six.
The Blades have won eight league matches this season, only the division’s top two, Bristol City and Preston have won more (9)
Overall Nigel Clough’s side have won nine of their last 12 matches.
They have scored at least twice in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions and in nine of the last 11.
The Blades have kept clean sheets in each of their last three League One games, their best run since March when they kept eight in a row.
They have though conceded 18 goals, which is the most amongst the league’s top six sides.
United have an imposing record in front of their own fans this season, winning four and losing just one of their six league matches at Bramall Lane.
That one defeat came on the opening day of the season so the Blades are now unbeaten in five home league matches and that Bristol reverse is their only setback in their last 11 home games stretching back to March.
There has not been many goals at Bramall Lane however. Whereas Oakwell has seen the most goals in League One so far in 2014-2015, only Rochdale’s Spotland has seen less than the Lane’s 14.
The Blades have netted just nine home goals but the five they have let in is the best home defensive record in the division.
Mark McNulty has scored in four of Sheffield United’s last five League One matches.
