Interesting Stats
Barnsley have won just one of their last six meetings with Huddersfield and have failed to win any of the last three at home, losing the most recent two 1-0.
Barnsley’s last home win over the Terriers was a 4-2 success back in 2005 when Michael Chopra netted a hattrick in a League One game. Their last home victory at this level was back in March 2001.
The Reds have also failed to score in three of the last five meetings home and away.
Huddersfield need to score twice to take their total of goals in all competitions against Barnsley to 100.
Whilst Barnsley conceded five goals in each of their last two matches, Huddersfield hit five past Bournemouth at the weekend with striker James Vaughan grabbing a hattrick.
Former Reds boss Mark Robins has seen his side lose just one of their first six league and cup games (on the opening day at Nottingham Forest) Since then they have won four out of five, including each of the last three.
Their start to this season in the league- LDWDWWW is EXACTLY the same as their start to last season.
12 months ago they followed those three successive wins with back to back defeats.
The last time Huddersfield won four games in a row was back in April 2011, in League One. The last time at this level was November 1999.
If they manage to secure victory from Oakwell it will be their best start to a league season for 30 years.
Barnsley have now won just one of their last 13 matches in all competitions and have failed to win any of their six games in 2013-2014, their worst run for 21 years, when they also failed to win their first six of 1992-1993.
Interestingly the last time they failed to win any of their first seven matches of a season was the previous year, 1991-1992.
This will be Barnsley’s fifth home game of the season, and they actually failed to win any of their first five home games of the 2011-2012 campaign.
Luke Steele’s omission for the 5-1 Capital One Cup defeat to Southampton on Tuesday night brought to an end his run of 42 consecutive league and cup appearances. The last time he did not play was the 4-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on the 27th October 2012, and that was due to an injury that kept him out of the first 15 games of 2012-2013.
If he does play it will be Steele’s 200th appearance for Barnsley.
His replacement, Mike Pollitt has not played back to back games since August 2009.
The Reds have conceded 17 goals in their six matches this season, an average of 2.8 per game.
