Interesting Stats
Barnsley have not defeated Reading at Oakwell since 1998 and have lost each of the last four, three of which without even scoring a goal.
That 3-0 success was in a League Cup tie, the last time they took three points off the Royals at home was two years previous- in the promotion season of 1996-1997 when they also triumphed 3-0.
Eight of Reading's last nine goals at Oakwell have come in the second half.
Overall Barnsley have lost five of the last six meetings with Reading
The Royals have made a decent fist of life back in the Championship after relegation and after winning just one of their opening five league and cup games in 2013-2014, they have gone on to win four and draw one of the following five.
That run also includes four clean sheets.
Nigel Adkins side are looking to win four games on the bounce for the first time since January. They have not won four LEAGUE games in a row since April 2012.
Adkins has lost just once in seven meetings as a manager against Barnsley with Scunthorpe and Southampton.
Reading have lost their last six Tuesday night matches.
This is now Barnsley’s worst start for 42 years, when they also took just four points from the opening nine games of the 1971-1972 campaign.
Defeat tomorrow would make this their worst start for 47 years when they started the 1966-67 season with just three points from their first 10 matches. They did recover to finish 13th that season however.
That 1966-67 season was the last time The Reds also failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their first nine matches, as they have done in 2013-2014. Back then it took until the 12th match to keep the back door shut.
Overall Barnsley have now won just two wins from the last 18 matches in all competitions, one of the last 12 and they have lost eight of the 11 they have played in 2013-2014.
They have lost four successive league games for the first time since November. They have not lost five in a row since September 2009. It has happened only twice in 27 years.
Barnsley have lost their last five Tuesday night matches.
