Interesting Stats
The last time these two sides met at Oakwell, back in April, Charlton inflicted Barnsley’s heaviest ever Football League home defeat.
Those six goals saw the Addicks over take The Reds in the head to head goal-scoring stakes, but a 1-0 win for Barnsley would tie it up at 69 a piece.
Remarkably in four of the six meetings prior to that game, neither team had scored more than once.
That was Charlton’s first victory at Oakwell in six attempts stretching back to 1995 and they have won just five of their 23 visits in total.
The home team has not triumphed since Barnsley won 3-0 at Oakwell in April 2008- five meetings ago.
Charlton have lost just two of their last 11 matches in all competitions but they were the first two league games of this campaign, so like Barnsley are still on 0 points. They have not lost their first three league games of the season since 1990-1991.
Last season Charlton had one of the best away records in the Championship, their tally of six defeats on the road was the best in the division.
Barnsley are still searching for their first goal and points of 2013-2014. Only they and Millwall are yet to net a Championship goal this season, but only Barnsley, Gillingham and Mansfield are yet to net in any competition.
The last time they failed to score in their first three games of a season was 2011-2012.
If they fail to net against Charlton it will be the first time in the club’s history that they have failed to net in any of their first four matches.
2011-2012 was also the last time Barnsley failed to win any of their first three league matches but the last time they lost all their first three was in 2008-2009 and that is the only time in 21 years.
The Reds have also won just one of their last 10 matches in all competitions, drawing six.
