Interesting Stats

Barnsley have won just one of their last seven meetings with Derby.

Their last two victories (in 2012 and 2009) were both by a 3-2 scoreline.

The Rams have managed a respectable nine victories from their 29 visits to Oakwell, but they haven’t won any of the last five. A 2-1 victory in 2007 is their only win at Barnsley since December 1993.

There have been five last minute goals scored in the last eight fixtures between the two sides, including one in each of the last three.

This will be the fifth successive meeting NOT played on a Saturday. The previous four have all been on Tuesday nights.

Derby are absolutely flying since Steve McClaren took over from Nigel Clough in September.

They have won nine of his 13 games in charge to soar from 14th in the Championship to 4th.

Boxing Day’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield stopped the Rams from extending their winning run to eight matches.

But this unbeaten run of the same number is their best since they went nine unbeaten in all competitions in the 2006-2007- the last time they were promoted.

The Rams have lost just one of their last five away games. Their tally of seven wins, and just two defeats is the best away record in the Championship.

Derby have netted 23 times on their travels, seven more than the nearest side.

Derby are susceptible to conceding goals however. They have the division’s best goal difference due to scoring a division high 46 goals, but they have shipped in 28, which is the most amongst the top 11 sides. They have kept just one clean sheet in their last six games.

Derby have fallen behind just once in their last eight matches…. And they came back to win that 5-1.

Steve McClaren has faced Barnsley as a manager just once before. This occurred on the opening day of the 2011-2012 season when his Nottingham Forest side were held to a 0-0 draw at the City Ground.

Record: D

As Nottingham Forest manager: Drew 0-0 6/8/11.

Barnsley are at the opposite end of the form table to their opponents having won just one of their last 10 matches, two of the last 24 matches, and eight from the last 36!

The Reds have failed to score from open play in seven of their last eight matches, and they have failed to score at all in six of those, including three of the last four.

They have gone eight matches since they last netted a second half and have managed just ONE in the last 12 games.

Barnsley have gone in at the break with the score-line at 0-0 ten times this season and they have gone on to lose SEVEN of those.

Danny Wilson has now won just one of his last eleven matches as Barnsley manager, and like Keith Hill he has failed to see his side score a goal in either of his first two games in charge this time around. No Barnsley manager has ever gone through his first three games in charge without seeing his side score.

In Wilson’s first spell as manager his first three league games yielded one win, one draw (away) and one defeat (at home). He has one draw (away) and one defeat (at home) from two this time around, and his first victory back in 1994 was at home….to Derby.

Barnsley have conceded 21 in the league at Oakwell this season. Nobody else in the Championship has conceded more at home, and as mentioned before nobody has scored more away goals than Derby.

Barnsley have won just three league matches so far this season, it is their lowest amount at this stage for 27 years, when they also had just three wins in 1986-1987, and like this campaign were bottom with 16 points. That season their fourth victory arrived on New Year’s Day and they recovered remarkably to finish 11th by winning 13 of their 26 matches in January to May 1987.

They have won just twice in front of their own supporters (the joint lowest in the division), the last of which was back on the 19th October. Their record of just four home defeats however is the best amongst the bottom four teams.

Barnsley are yet to win a game this season if they are not winning at half time.

The Reds have won just two of their last seven final games of a calendar year.
