A surprise appearance in a Barnsley shirt from Dennis Souza couldn’t stop Barnsley’s Reserves from a six goal hammering at home to Derby County last night.
Brazilian Souza, who made 80 appearances for The Reds between 2007 and 2009 before leaving for Qatar, was back in a reds shirt last night as he attempts to find new employment. He was also joined by veteran full-back Darren Powell, but they were ripped apart by a rampant Rams second string who were 3-0 up by the half hour mark courtesy of goals from Callum Ball, Jeffery Hendrick and Conor Doyle.
There was no let up after the break either with Hendrick and Ben Pringle putting the Rams 5-0 up before Barnsley finally got a goal with Steven Bennett turning home a loose ball after good work from Martin Devaney.
Kane Richards grabbed a sixth for Derby before Jim O’Brien grabbed a late consolation from the spot after he was brought down.
