Barnsley’s first team squad will be rewarded for their run to the FA Cup Quarter-Finals with a trip to Malaga next week.
The club’s run to the last eight of the competition- their best run for five years- has netted around £750,000 in revenue. A shock win or draw over Premier League champions Manchester City would bring in a cool £1m.
Therefore the board have decided to reward the players with a spot of warm weather training and they will depart to the South of Spain after this weekend’s trip to Bristol City before returning to England on Wednesday to prepare for that weekend’s visit of Bolton Wanderers.
Reds boss David Flitcroft told the Barnsley Chronicle:
“The board wanted to reward us for getting into the quarter-finals. With lots of Saturday/Tuesday games coming up it’s important we recover well.
We’ve picked a facility that is ideal for us. Our training pitches at Oakwell are very poor at the minute and I don’t want to train indoors and risk more injuries.”
