Reds manager David Flitcroft has told BBC Radio Sheffield that he is working on the possibility of bringing John Stones back to Oakwell on loan.
The 18-year-old left the Reds on transfer deadline day, completing a £3million move to Premier League side Everton but Flitcroft is hopeful of a loan until the end of the season for the Barnsley born lad.
Flicker told BBC Radio Sheffield that Everton boss David Moyes wants to assess Stones and if he doesn't fit into their immediate plans then a loan move is the likely outcome.
Flitcroft said that Stones returned to Oakwell today to say his goodbyes to his former team-mates but he is hopeful that Stones will be back to assist the Reds in their relegation dogfight.
He also told reporter Paul Walker that a move for ex-hero Brian Howard is on the back-burner after the current form of his midfield and the depth he now has at his disposal. Howard made 127 appearances for the Reds between 2005 and 2008, scoring 27 goals.
