A second former England manager has been axed by a Championship club in the space of three weeks after Sven Goran Eriksson was sacked by Leicester City this evening.
63 year old Eriksson who took the England national side to three major tournaments has seen his contract terminated by the club’s mega rich King Power owners after a miserable run of just five wins from their 13 league matches this season has left the Foxes in 13th position- two points off the play-offs and five off the automatic promotion places.
For any normal club that might not sound like a crisis, but then not every manager was backed to the tune of £10m in the summer, bringing in nine new players. This outlay had made Leicester- who were last in the top flight back in 2004- odds on favourites for promotion especially with Eriksson- winner of 17 major trophies in his 34 year managerial career at the helm, but Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Millwall proved the last straw for the impatient Asian owners.
