Barnsley are set to lose their top scorer after The Reds and Charlton Athletic today agreed a £500,000 fee for the 28 year old striker who netted 15 goals in 2013/2014 but was unable to save the club from relegation from the Championship.
Charlton themselves were embroiled in the relegation scrap for most of the season but won four of their final five games to finish seven points clear.
And now the Addicks are ready to give O’Grady a second tier lifeline.
Barnsley signed O’Grady from Sheffield Wednesday last summer after a successful loan spell and he has netted 21 times in 59 appearances overall. He was in London today to discuss personal terms.
Meanwhile one of Barnsley’s exciting young prospects has today put pen to paper on a new contract.
19-year-old midfielder Brad Abbott has penned his future to the Oakwell outfit after rising through the ranks. He spent time on loan at Harrogate Town last season whilst also appearing for the Under 21 side.
There have also been rumours today that first team midfielders Jim O’Brien and Tomasz Cywka have joined Stephen Dawson in rejecting new contracts at Oakwell but this as of yet has not been confirmed.
