Reds captain Jason Shackell has completed his move to Championship rivals Derby County for an undisclosed fee thought to be in excess of £1million.
The 27-year-old expressed his desire to leave soon after Mark Robins' dismissal and the Barnsley board said no decision would be made on his future until they appointed a new manager.
Now, after days of speculation, Shackell has completed his switch to the Rams, who actually finished below the Reds in last season's Championship campaign.
Shackell told BBC Radio Derby:
"It's the right place at the right time. It's a good fit at this stage of my career.
"The manager is looking to push on. They have been active in the transfer window and I am ambitious and want to play at the highest level I can."
