Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that they will make a decision on whether tonight's match with Barnsley at Hillsborough will go ahead later today.
The Hillsborough pitch is fine with the undersoil heating ensuring that the grass is clear and free of snow but the surrounding roads and streets are very icy and Wednesday will decide in the early afternoon whether it is safe enough for the game to go ahead.
The club's operations manager John Rutherford told swfc.co.uk: "We have been preparing for this weather for three weeks, we knew it was coming. The undersoil heating was switched on immediately after Saturday's game so with regard to the playing surface, there is absolutely no problem.
"There was a coating of snow on the pitch on Tuesday morning, which our team promptly cleared.
"However, because the safety of spectators is paramount, there could be an issue in terms of access with supporters getting to and going home from the ground, which will be determined by the temperatures throughout the day.
"For that reason, we will monitor the situation and make a final decision later on Tuesday. I would ask our supporters to check the club's official website for further updates and also thank them for their patience and understanding."
