Barnsley’s top scorer Ricardo Vaz Te is set to open contract talks with the club, as they look to tie the Portuguese hotshot down to a long-term deal.
When the 25 year old was signed by Keith Hill in the summer, it was just on a short term one year contract due to the former Bolton man’s nomadic recent career. But Vaz Te has exceeded all expectations, scoring 12 goals in 14 starts.
This run of form has alerted a number of Championship clubs to his contract situation and The Reds have decided to act this week to try and tie the former Portugal Under 21 international to a new deal.
There were media reports a couple of weeks ago that Vaz Te had already rejected a new contract from the Reds but the club claimed that this was false and no talks had as then commenced.
