17 year old centre-back Luke Waterfall has left Oakwell to team up with ex Reds stars Antony Kay and Chris Shuker at League One Tranmere Rovers.
Waterfall progressed through the Academy at Barnsley and was involved regularly with the Reserves but failed to appear for the first team.
He has already featured for Ronnie Moore's side in pre-season games against Wrexham and Heswell and has now penned a one year deal.
Moore told www.tranmererovers.co.uk:
"Luke is a very talented young defender. He's big and strong, comfortable on the ball and knows how to tackle.
"He has a promising future ahead of him and I'm delighted to be able to bring him to Tranmere."
Meanwhile transfer-listed midfielders Andy Johnson and Sam Togwell are set to turn out for a Barnsley XI against the world's oldest football club, Sheffield FC this weekend.
A mostly reserve and young Reds side face the Unibond Premier League side tomorrow (Saturday) at the Bright Finance Stadium with a 3pm kick-off.
Young defender Robert Atkinson and this pre-season's top scorer Jamil Adam are also set to play.
The first team travel much further a field when they head to Huish Park tomorrow to take on League One side Yeovil.
Kyle Letheren is set to start with Luke Steele nursing a neck injury.
Reds boss Simon Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"Luke has a neck problem and is out of the game. Kyle Letheren will play the full 90 minutes".
