Despite Doncaster Rovers finishing bottom of the 2011-2012 Championship, Barnsley will play at least one South Yorkshire derby next season after Sheffield Wednesday sealed their return after two years in League One.
The Owls, who were relegated in 2009-2010 defeated relegated Wycombe 2-0 at Hillsborough this afternoon to ensure they pipped city rivals Sheffield United to the second automatic promotion spot.
The Blades, who are managed by the man who took Barnsley into the Premier League for the one and so far only time in the club’s history- Danny Wilson- meanwhile were held to a 2-2 draw at relegated Exeter and finish in third position. They are joined in the end of season play-offs by West Yorkshire outfit Huddersfield Town, who of course Barnsley defeated in the 2005-2006 League One Play-Off Semi-Finals. United will face Stevenage in the Semis, whereas Huddersfield face Milton Keynes Dons.
