David Weir has become the first Yorkshire managerial casualty of the 2013-2014 season after being axed by Sheffield United.
The 43 year old former Everton and Scotland defender was only appointed at Bramall Lane in June, in his first managerial role but he won just one of his 13 league and cup matches in charge- his first match, a 2-1 victory against Notts County on the first weekend of the season.
Since then Weir has guided the Blades to nine defeats in 12 matches which has left them slumped in 22nd place in League One, 14 points off the play-offs.
The final straw was Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to League Two strugglers Hartlepool.
