Andy Ritchie says a deal to bring Dean Windass to Oakwell could be resurrected.
Any possible deal looked dead after Bradford rejected The Reds initial bid of 100,000 but Ritchie has confirmed that after Windass grabbed his 14th goal of the season at the weekend he is trying to persuade chairman Gordon Shepherd to release more cash.
Ritchie told PA Sport
" I will be discussing it again this week with my chairman and if I can persuade him to up the bid a little bit we might just go back with a better offer.
I think Dean's the best striker in this division and anybody would have him in their side. Paul Jewell wanted him for the Premiership recently, so I'd have no reservations.
He could be the difference between making it or not. You live and die by your strikers"
In another boost to The Reds chances Windass has confirmed he would talk to Barnsley if a bid was accepted.
Speaking to PA Sport Dean said:
It's totally out of my hands.
I'm the man in the middle, it's between the two clubs and all i want to do is play football.
If Bradford say they want to sell then I'll go and speak to Barnsley.
But if they want to keep me, that's great. I'm happy here and have had no part in all this"
