Wolves have made an official approach to Doncaster Rovers to speak their manager Dean Saunders about taking over the role at Molienux made vacant by the sacking yesterday of Stale Solbakken.
Reds target Sean O’Driscoll was originally believed to be Wolves first choice, due to his family ties to the area, but it has emerged O’Driscoll and Wolves’ Chief Executive Jez Moxey do not get on and that has seen them turn to former Welsh international Saunders, who after failing to save Doncaster from relegation from the Championship last season has led the South Yorkshire side to second place in League One.
Ironically it was O’Driscoll that Saunders replaced at the Keepmoat Stadium back in September 2011.
This should clear the way for O’Driscoll to take the Oakwell reigns; the 55 year old is the unanimous choice of the board and could now be in charge by the start of next week.
