Mark Robins has again dipped into the loan market to sign West Brom and New Zealand striker Chris Wood on a 93-day emergency loan deal.
He was born in Auckland and moved to West Brom's Academy in 2008 and has gone on to make 27 appearances for the Baggies, netting just once but earning rave reviews.
At just 17, he made his New Zealand international debut in a 2-1 defeat to Tanzania and has won another 10 caps since, including three games in the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in the All Whites games with Italy, Paraguay
and Slovakia.
Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo spoke about the move:
"Woodsy's a very promising talent, but with the recent acquisitions of Peter Odemwingie and Marc-Antoine Fortune, and with Roman Bednar, Simon Cox and Ishmael Miller also on our books, he's not getting the game time he needs at this stage of his career," Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo told the club's official website.
"We feel it is best for his footballing education that he goes out on loan and gets some first-team games under his belt.
"He'll hopefully get those in the Championship at Barnsley, who are an excellent footballing side, and we'll be closely monitoring his progress."
He joins a band of Kiwis who have all at one time or another plied their trades at Oakwell after Rory Fallon, David Mulligan, Leo Bertos, Jeremy Christie, Allan Pearce and Colin Walker.
He will go straight into Mark Robins' squad to face Reading at the Madjeski Stadium on Saturday.
