"We have to look at the positives and we finished the game with a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old on the park and both did well for us. Of course we are disappointed to lose the game and we all wanted to end on a high.
"I thought we passed the ball pretty well in the first half but did not get that break or a lucky bounce. Cardiff scored a good goal but we were in the game.
"We then had something that has not happened to us all season when Luke (Steele) dropped a clanger. It is funny because we were talking about that last night and I cannot remember a mistake like that from any of our keepers this season.
"You have to look at the season as a whole and we have reached a FA Cup Semi Final, secured our status in the Championship and improved as a team. It is not nice to lose though.
"We can look forward. We had four good shots on target and two of those came from Jacob Butterfield, who played the full 90 minutes and did very well. Jamil Adam had the other two and was unlucky not to get a goal although he has a lot of time on his side.
"Professional footballers should not need motivating to go out and play and I thought that we did not lack anything in that respect today. We have had to shuffle things around and had to play a system to include all the fit players we had. We have seen some kids here today that have shown that the future is bright. We can now look forward and plan for next season.
"I will strengthen in the summer and there will be three or four players coming in. We might also look to move a couple on because we have to make sure we improve again. We have done that this season and we now need to do it again.
"This has been a great season for everybody connected with Barnsley Football Club. We looked to make ourselves more competitive in the Championship and we have done that".
