Barnsley 0-1 Bolton Wanderers

Last updated : 26 December 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Glorious first half chances squandered and a quality sucker punch may have sounded the final death knell.

Barnsley have now failed to beat Bolton in the last nine attempts, with this being the fourth defeat in that run.

Luke Steele made a surprise first start since September after Jack Butland was dramatically recalled by parent club Stoke just ONE DAY before his loan was due to expire.

There was also a first appearance in seven for top scorer Chris O’Grady.

O’Grady and Scotland started up front together for the first time since the 2-0 defeat at QPR on the 5th October

Barnsley’s record becomes even worse by the week. It now stands at two wins from 24 matches, and eight from the last 36!

The Reds are woeful in front of goal and have now failed to score from open play in seven of their last eight matches, and they have failed to score at all in six of those, including three of the last four.

They have gone eight matches since they last netted a second half goal and have managed just ONE in the last 12 games.

Today was the tenth time this season Barnsley have gone in at the break with the score-line at 0-0 and they have now gone on to lose SEVEN of those.

Danny Wilson has now won just one of his last eleven matches as Barnsley manager, and like Keith Hill he has failed to see his side score a goal in either of his first two games in charge this time around.

Neil Danns’ goal was the 21st Barnsley have conceded in the league at Oakwell this season. Nobody else in the Championship has conceded more at home.

Barnsley have now lost each of their last four Boxing Day fixtures, all of which have been at home.
