Once again the feelgood factor generated by a tremendous away win at relegation rivals is dashed by an insipid home performance as Barnsley lost at home to Leeds for the first time in 17 years.
This coupled with a Millwall win at Middlesbrough leaves Barnsley now surely on the brink of relegation as they stand three points off safety with three games remaining.
The Reds have now gone a staggering FIVE games since they last managed to score at Oakwell, their worst run for 55 years. They also went five without a goal in February-April 1959, a season where they were relegated, finishing bottom of this league.
In total The Reds have scored just twice in their past seven home matches and have been beaten 1-0 in three of the last four. They have managed nine in their last four on the road.
Today was Barnsley’s ninth home defeat of the season- the same amount as they suffered last year.
Just five victories have come so far at Oakwell, which means they will definitely finish with their lowest amount of home victories since 1971-1972, another relegated season. If they fail to beat QPR on the final day of the season they will suffer their lowest amount of home wins since 1952-1953.
They have managed just 20 home goals this season, if they do not score at least two against the R’s it will be their lowest EVER home total.
As mentioned before Leeds won at Oakwell for the first time since 1997, when Danny Wilson was also in the home dugout. This was only their second win here in 10 visits but was also Leeds’ first win on the road in 12 matches.
