This 3-0 home defeat to Birmingham, the Blues’ biggest win at Oakwell since they triumphed 5-0 in September 1995 and their biggest win on the road since they won 4-0 at Crystal Palace back in March, proved the end for manager David Flitcroft after just 10 months in permanent charge, and 11 overall.
It was Birmingham’s third win in four visits to Oakwell and The Reds have not beaten them at home since 2007- a run of four matches.
Birmingham have also now netted in seven of their last eight visits.
It leaves The Reds rock bottom of the Championship, six points adrift of safety.
They have won just one of the last 12 matches and staggeringly just seven of the last 31!
The Reds have failed to score a first half goal in any of their last four games have now failed to win when conceding a first half strike since the 2-1 win over Wolves on the 19th February. That is also the last time they came from 1-0 down to win a match.
The Reds have also managed to net a second half goal in just one of their last seven matches.
They have failed to score at all in their last three league games. It is their longest run without a league goal for exactly a year. They also went three without finding the net between 3rd and 10th November last year.
Paul Caddis’ effort was only the second time Barnsley have conceded a first half goal in nine matches.
His brace were his first strikes for 42 games in all competitions.
This was the first time Barnsley have conceded three in the first 45 minutes since the 5-1 home defeat to Watford on the 21st September.
It was only the Blues second win in nine trips away from St Andrews Stadium.
Marcus Tudgay made his second debut for the club, it was the first time he had started a game since he was last at Oakwell, the 3-1 home defeat to Blackburn on the 29th December 2012… when Keith Hill was sacked immediately after!
Barnsley have conceded 35 in their 17 matches and 19 of those have come in just 10 home games. They have conceded more than anybody else in the Championship, and the second most in the Football League- only League One Crewe (40) have conceded more. Their goal difference is also now –19, again only Crewe’s is worst.
