This was The Reds third defeat in four league games and dropped them into the League One relegation zone, The Reds lowest league position since January 2003.
On the football pyramid they now sit in 65th place, their lowest position after nine games of a season for 36 years. Back in 1978, they were second in the Fourth Division (70th place)
Barnsley have now lost two home games in a row, conceding eight goals in the process. It is the first time they have lost two home league games in a row at this level since August 2004.
The Oakwell faithful have seen some torrid times on their own patch recently. Since the start of last season Barnsley have played 32 home matches in all competitions, winning just seven.
Barnsley have now gone five league matches without a win, their longest winless run since February.
The Reds, who have kept just one clean sheet in their opening nine league matches, have now conceded 16 goals. Only the three sides below them in the table have conceded more.
They have also conceded 10 home goals now. Only bottom side Crewe have conceded more on their own patch (11)
Despite not scoring today their tally of 13 remains the best in the bottom half.
Barnsley have now failed to score a first half goal in any of their past four matches, matching a sequence from the final four matches of 2013-2014.
Last weekend The Reds faced more shots on target (15) than they had faced for nearly two years. Yesterday Barnsley’s limp attacked managed just FOUR shots on goal, of which just two were on target. It is their lowest amount of shots on goal in a game since the 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest in April 2013 when they managed just two.
You have to go back to April 2012 and a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff for the last time they were so impotent at Oakwell, they managed just three shots that day.
Not that many Reds supporters had to endure this torture, the attendance yesterday was just 8,879, the lowest at Oakwell since 7,869 watched the 2-1 win over Brighton on the 12th March 2013.
That game however was played in midweek. Yesterday’s crowd was the lowest Saturday attendance at Oakwell since 8,227 saw a 2-1 defeat by Cardiff in November 2012.
Those who do attend Barnsley matches will have seen most of the action take place in the final 10 minutes in recent weeks. There has now been seven goals scored in the 80th minute or later in the last five games, four scored by Barnsley and three by the opposition. The Reds have conceded those three in the last two games.
This poor start has already piled the pressure on manager Danny Wilson. Revered as a hero when he returned in December thanks to his heroics of his first spell in the late 90s, it has not gone well so far.
In total the 54 year old has won 83 of his 240 matches in charge, but only nine of those have come in his second spell from 38 games. Incidentally Barnsley won 10 of the 38 Premier League matches that he was in charge for back in 1997-1998.
To end on a bright note (slightly) this was the first league game this season that no Barnsley player was shown a yellow card.
Swindon are very much at the opposite end of the form table (and league table). This win was their third in a row and third on the bounce away from home to propel them to third in the table.
It was the Robins first win at Oakwell for seven matches, stretching back to 1998.
