Barnsley 1-1 Stockport County

Last updated : 30 September 2024 By Rob Miles

Barnsley suffered a dose of their own medicine from last weekend by conceding a last minute goal seven days on from winning a game by scoring one.

It is the first time Barnsley have dropped points in the 90th minute or later since the final home league game of last season against Northampton -  one of only two occasions it occurred in 2023-2024.

In all competitions Barnsley have now conceded five goals in the last ten minutes in their last four outings and eight goals in this period in total so far in 2024-2025.

Things had started off brightly when Adam Phillips scored from the penalty spot after just four minutes, Barnsley's earliest goal since almost 12 months to the day - on the 23rd September 2023 Callum Styles scored after four minutes at Northampton.

It's the Reds earliest Oakwell league strike since the 1st April 2023 when Devante Cole netted after four minutes in a 5-0 win over Morecambe.

Both Phillips and Stockport's Louie Barry netted their fifth league goals of the season, putting them joint top of the League One scorers charts for 2024-2025 alongside Mansfield's Lee Gregory and Peterborough's Kwame Poku. Phillips has been directly involved in more goals than any other player in League One this season with six (5 goals 1 assist)

This was the 24th different game Phillips has netted in for Barnsley and he has been the Reds' first goal-scorer in a game now on 11 occasions.

Each of the last four occasions Barnsley have been ahead at half time and not won have come at Oakwell - it has happened on two occasions so far this season (also 2-2 draw with Northampton)

Barnsley have now won only one of their last 10 home league games, compared with winning six of their last 11 on the road.

Three of Stockport's last four league games have now finished 1-1 whilst this was Barnsley's first in League One this season (they finished 2023-2024 with a 1-1 home draw)

Mael de Gevigney has been booked four times in his 11 appearances so far this season (all comps) three of which have come in the last four.

Three of his four yellows have come in the first half of matches.

Substitute Josh Benson was shown a yellow card, the sixth Reds substitute to be booked this season.

Barnsley have one more point on the board than they did in 2023-2024 after eight games but sit in the same 6th place as they did 12 months ago.

Barnsley have won only one of their first four home games in the third tier for first time since 2014-2015 when they won one and lost three of the first four.

Barnsley have opened the scoring in each of their last four Oakwell meetings with Stockport but have now gone on to draw three of them (W1)

Each of the last three meetings overall have ended in a draw and four of the last five.

Barnsley are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Stockport and have lost only one of the last nine.

They have lost only one of the last 10 Oakwell meetings but have drawn each of the last three and four of the last five.
